Welcome to Word Wars!

Play Overview

• Keep your king alive while trying to capture your opponents' king!
• Each week, every student studies 5 prefixes, 5 suffixes, and 5 roots.
• Students are to study the word banks at home, during free time in class, etc.
• On Fridays, we wage battle and update the scoreboard.
• We continue play each week until the war is won.
• After a the war is won, we begin a new word bank and repeat the cycle

The Rules

1. Students will be split into two teams
2. Each player must have made a complete deposit to the word bank in order to play
3. To start, teams "Paper-Rock-Scissors" best out of three to see who goes first...
4. TeacherMason makes the first withdrawal from the bank
5. The first player is asked to give the definition of the word and:
   1. If answered correctly can:
      1. choose to fortify
      2. choose to attack
      3. then, makes the next withdrawal from the bank for the next team
   2. If player cannot answer correctly, either:
      1. use a magic arrow if available
      2. forfeit the turn for the other team's next player to answer
      3. use of an arrow or loss to the other team forfeits the choice of withdrawal; the challenging team chooses
         
         
6. The new word is then given to the next team's player

The "Tools"

The King: Keep him safe while attacking your enemy; first team to capture the king wins
The Fortification: Each team starts with one castle wall tower; once three wall towers are reached, and attack must be made
The Catapult: Use this medieval weapon to launch damage into your enemy's defenses
The Magic Arrows: Three are allowed per war per team; golden arrows are used when a player does not now the answer, but a teammate does
